The Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (CDIS) II is a registered nurse with a broad clinical knowledge base and excellent understanding of clinical documentation improvement strategies and requirements. The CDIS II serves as a CDI subject matter expert to follow developments in clinical documentation and provide support to colleagues, CDI Team Leaders, CDI Manager, and in collaboration with the CDI Lead Educators and Quality Liaison. The CDIS II will contribute to content development, education and training materials, and ongoing service line documentation improvement initiatives.
Under indirect supervision, the CDIS II facilitates and obtains appropriate provider documentation for any clinical conditions or procedures to support the appropriate severity of illness, expected risk of mortality, and complexity of patient care. Educates members of the patient care team regarding clinical documentation guidelines and regulatory requirements, including attending physicians, allied health practitioners, nursing, coding and case management. Supports timely, accurate, and complete documentation of clinical information used for measuring and reporting hospital and physician-based outcomes. Will identify quality of care issues in documentation and will seek resolution of issues through appropriate channels. Works independently majority of the time with a high degree of autonomy. Position may include remote working rotation.
