The Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (CDIS) II is a registered nurse with a broad clinical knowledge base and excellent understanding of clinical documentation improvement strategies and requirements. The CDIS II serves as a CDI subject matter expert to follow developments in clinical documentation and provide support to colleagues, CDI Team Leaders, CDI Manager, and in collaboration with the CDI Lead Educators and Quality Liaison. The CDIS II will contribute to content development, education and training materials, and ongoing service line documentation improvement initiatives.
Under indirect supervision, the CDIS II facilitates and obtains appropriate provider documentation for any clinical conditions or procedures to support the appropriate severity of illness, expected risk of mortality, and complexity of patient care. Educates members of the patient care team regarding clinical documentation guidelines and regulatory requirements, including attending physicians, allied health practitioners, nursing, coding and case management. Supports timely, accurate, and complete documentation of clinical information used for measuring and reporting hospital and physician-based outcomes. Will identify quality of care issues in documentation and will seek resolution of issues through appropriate channels. Works independently majority of the time with a high degree of autonomy. Position may include remote working rotation.

Qualifications

In addition to bringing humankindness to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:

  • Nursing Diploma or Associates Degree Required
  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing, preferred
  • 3 years nursing experience in the inpatient hospital setting (critical care and/or strong med/surg experience preferred).
  • Experienced Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist or equivalent clinical experience with demonstrable CDI subject matter expertise.
  • Must demonstrate Clinical competency through successfully passing Clinical Competency exam through Nuance.
  • Must demonstrate CDI software competency through passing Clintegrity exam within 6 months of starting role.
  • Experience in health information management or hospital quality program is beneficial (not required) Demonstrates ability to construct clinically valid, clear, and concise clarifications with provider response rates in concordance with expertise.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet CDI program benchmarking standards.
  • Qualified candidate will be self-motivated with excellent interpersonal, critical thinking, analytical, organizational, and writing skills. Proficiency with MS Office software. Proficient in use of Electronic Health Record.
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license from a compact state
  • Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS), preferred
  • Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner from the American Health Management Association, preferred

$37.76 - $60.47 / hour
