Overview

Depending on your location, you may be eligible for up to $8,000 in relocation assistance when you start as a Flight For Life Transport Registered Nurse (RN).

 

As a Flight Registered Nurse (RN), you will apply the nursing process to alleviate human suffering and enhance quality of life by combining excellent medical care with appropriate and safe transportation. RN Flight staff are self-managing individuals who extend hospital resources into the community, are committed to professional growth, and participate in regional education.

 

Other Flight For Life Transport Nurse responsibilities include:

  • Performing a variety of therapeutic/diagnostic interventions including but not limited to IV’s, wound care, medication administration, catheterization, specimen collections orthopedic and minor surgical procedures.
  • Planning and implementing resuscitation, stabilization, and transport of critically ill and injured patients.
  • Providing airway management, optimizes perfusion, and relieves pain and/or stress within air or ground transport setting.
  • Promoting a safe environment essential to the health and well-being of all individuals with the air medical transport environment, including aircraft and ambulance safety and universal precautions and protocols.
  • Adapting to rapidly changing technology as evidenced by competency in technology and equipment used in the patient care setting. 
  • You may be required to drive Flight for Life Colorado vehicles including ambulances and the Flight for Life Colorado Suburban, in support of our ground ambulance operations, relocating vehicles to cover for maintenance and other program needs.

Our helicopters and aircrafts serve our Colorado communities and the surrounding Rocky Mountain Region.  Flight for Life® Colorado’s rigorous training and decades of proven service have made us the air medical program of choice for hospitals, helicopter and aircraft EMS agencies, search and rescue teams, and ski patrols across the regions we serve. When you join our nursing team as a Transport Nurse, you will help advance modern nursing by providing your skills, experience, and commitment to compassionate care. 14-Week Flight for Life Training & Orientation Schedule

  • On-site at Colorado front-range hospitals, to include:
    • St Anthony Hospital (Lakewood, CO)
    • St Francis Medical Center (Colorado Springs, CO)
    • St Mary Corwin (Pueblo, CO)
    • Mercy Regional Medical Center (Durango, CO)
  • 12-14 weeks on-site, required
    • Two weeks didactic
    • 10-12 weeks precepted critical care transport training
  • (3) 12-hour shifts per week; variable schedule requiring nights, days, and weekends (eligible for differentials)
  • Lodging provided 
  • Mileage reimbursement for (1) trip home to visit during 14-week training
  • Own, reliable vehicle transportation required to commute to training bases
  • Post-training, 2-year commitment agreement required

Qualifications

In addition to bringing humankindness to the workplace each day, qualified flight nurse candidates will need the following:

 

Experience Requirements

  • 5 years of recent critical care experience required
  • Previous ICU experience preferred

Education Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required for new graduates, preferred for experienced RN's required
  • BSN Preferred

License/Certification Requirements

  • Current state RN license for applicable state of employment or current RN license from a participating state in National Compact Licensure required
  • Current Basic Life Support through American Heart Association required
  • Current ACLS required
  • Current PALS upon hire or within six months of hire/transfer required
  • NRP upon hire or within 12 months of hire/transfer required
  • Certified Flight Registered Nurse upon hire or within 2 years of hire/transfer required
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass the annual review of driving record for safe vehicle operations required
  • Must maintain current on all certifications required by Commission for Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems required
  • Transport Provider Advanced Trauma Course or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) upon hire or within 12months of hire/transfer required

Physical Requirements

  • Medium Work - (Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly)
